FOR
JAZZ AUDIO FANS ONLY Development Inside
Story |
Hasehiro listening room's
regulars had asked Hasehiro for 2.5 years, "Hasehiro Audio has a variety of different UMU/MM
back loaded horns for 5cm to 20cm, but the horn for
20cm is only MM-191T. MM-T types are too heavy and too big, so I want you
to design and make a middle class horn with a height of
about 600mm." Hasehiro gave a favorable
reply to them, "Sure, I'll
design the middle class horn at odd
times." But Hasehiro was disinclined to it
because Hasehiro Audio had focused on compact
horn speakers and there is no place to put
the half-finished parts in a warehouse though medium
size. So Hasehiro replied, "when
spring arrives..., after summer passes..., once the new
year comes..." One day, one of the regulars
got impatient and brought Hasehiro a pair of Audio
Nirvana, "I entrust you with the
Audio Nirvanas, so please make the backloaded horn
enclosures in a hurry. Other two regulars will purchase the
same enclosures
surely." |

Hasehiro thought
that I have to make the backloaded horn
enclosure because everybody is really enthusiastic about
the middle class backloaded horn
loudspeaker. In the spring of
2014, Hasehiro restarted the design for the
suspended horn, and completed it in one
sitting. Understandably, it is
newly-designed exponential curved horn by an elaborate
calculation. Forthwith Hasehiro made the

loaded horn enclosures based on the design by way of trial, and temporary
mounted Audio Nirvana Super 8" Cast Frame
received from the
regular. Now, what sound is coming?
Thick sound got out from
the newly-designed exponential curved back
loaded horn. A bass tone of double bass
resonated to my bowels despite temporary mounting, and
also, it played a roaring bass tone of saxophone with
very heavy sound. The newly-designed exponential
curved horn is shorter than the horn length
of MM-T types,
so Hasehiro used to worry about its bass tone, but it
exerted the desired performance. Hasehiro narrowed its air
chamber compared with MM-T types, so the brassy treble such
as hi-hat is just like live sound and texture of the
metal itself. It is pleasing to the ear. Hasehiro had
conviction that jazz listeners love the playing of
the newly-designed exponential curved horn with Audio
Nirvana Super 8" Cast Frame from the home of
jazz. Hasehiro rounded the corners of the middle class back
loaded horn enclosures in design, and named it
UMU-191M. |

Unexpected Order from A
Celebrated JAZZ Critic |
At the end of 2014,
Hasehiro Audio had trial listening event at Jazz cafe bar
MEG in Tokyo. Hasehiro prepared UMU-131XS, MM-141S and the middle class back loaded horn
UMU-191M with Audio Nirvana Super 8" Cast Frame for the
event. A celebrated jazz critic and the owner of
MEG, Mr.Yasukuni Terashima came into MEG when playing jazz
after setting. Mr.Terashima loved the playing of UMU-191M
soon after listening. Mr.Terashima said, "This is very exciting sound! I
will get this!" Hasehiro took it as a joke, but
Mr.Terashima said, "There are
ever so many loudspeakers of good and beautiful
sound, so they play bland sound to me, but this middle
class back loaded horn plays sound I didn't know. That's
very fun sound! It shows me sliding sound of snare drum by
wire-brush, and is worth buying with just that.
But please paint
it Lamborghini yellow because I don't like this color,
and I dislike the vertical lines,
too."
Hasehiro really got the
order from Mr.Yasukuni Terashima. Hasehiro was quiet
confident that Mr.Terashima loves the playing of the
UMU-191M with Audio Nirvana Super 8" Cast Frame, but he
had no idea that Mr.Terashima purchase
it. The UMU-191M was recognized and assessed as a
loudspeaker of playing jazz by a celebrated jazz
critic. Hasehiro kicked off the trial listening event with
a sense of exhilaration at the capacity cafe
bar. |

The Name is For Jazz
Audio Fans Only |
The first part of
the trial listening event is the UMU-191M. Hasehiro
put on jazz CDs brought in by visitors one after the
other.
"Great!
midrange and treble jump out!" "The quality of tenor saxophone played by
Sonny Rollins
is great!" | The facilitator chose a visitor
and sought the opinions, "I thought that the
middle class backloaded horn speaker is no good
when listened to the first music. But it is playing the
excellent jazz from the second music. I think this speaker
allows the recorded condition to be heard clearly.",
the visitor said. |

The facilitator said, "Everyone is really charged
up today. Is there anyone who can speak evil of the
speaker?" A celebrated jazz critic, Mr.Yasukuni
Terashima said, "Please don't say the bass, or the treble
about this. The speaker is of much
value just hear the sound of snare
drum! Surely, the middle class back |
loaded horn speaker plays sound I didn't
know. I met exciting loudspeaker for the first time in many
years." |
|
Hasehiro requested the nicknaming of the
UMU-191M to Mr.Terashima, but refused once. Visitors
said, "I think that it is Terassie." "How about
Jazzload?" Probably, Mr.Terashima
was inspired by them, and said, "How about For Jazz
Audio Fans Only?" The nickname was
decided. UMU-191M with Audio Nirvana |
