SMALLEST PREMIUM
SPEAKERS Development Inside
Story |
In spring 2007,
Hasehiro attacked the development of the smallest high end
audio system, diversification of a sound source,
the
housing situation in urban community.
He didn't have
a smaller driver on hand. |

Hasehiro found some 4cm drivers in the
catalog, and he got a fit-looking driver.
It's Fostex 40A02
using alnico magnet; the
middle of the photo.
But
it was smaller-than-expected driver
and the cone
diameter was only 32mm.
It's like bean driver of
0.2W.
It's hardly possible that it can play
low-pitched
sound. |
Hasehiro lost a sense of expectancy before
playing it.
Fostex 40A02 couldn't push a sound out of
the enclosure opening
due to lack of power.
If
it's 5cm driver...? |
Hasehiro
got Tang Band W2-852SF; the
right side of the
photo.
First, Hasehiro drove it by a tube amp of
2W and
it's PC sound source.
It was not bad.
Next, he
drove it by 300B.
Modestly-bass came out from
the
enclosure opening. |

Hasehiro wanted to make the smallest
enclosure at 18cm high.
He made a change in a
design of enclosure over and over again.
But it was
unreasonable target for Hasehiro backloaded
system.
Eventually, it ended with a compromise that it is
A5-sized 23cm
high. In the
trial stage, Hasehiro chose newly-developed
special
"Hall Tone" coating for redeem thin
enclosure.

Furthermore, outstanding difficulty is
5cm
full-range speaker driver.
Hasehiro tested a wide
range of highly-
reputed speaker drivers from one
minute to
the next, but they could not get to
the
backloaded level.
They lack the power of the
magnet.
Hasehiro was on the verge of giving up. |

Finally, Hasehiro obtained another one and tested
it; the bottom both ends in the photo.
The speaker driver
has sufficient power.
So Hasehiro decided that it's
available for backloaded horn system.
Hasehiro made the
special "Hall Tone" painted prototype and exhibited it at the
Hasehiro listening event in Nihonbashi in the
fall
of 2007.
The powerful sound was extremely
well received.
Hasehiro aimed to
commercialize that. |
Further
Outstanding Difficulty |
Hasehiro found a good speaker driver
and the prototype got
a favorable reception from a lot of
listeners.
So, He was aiming to commercialize the smallest
high end back
loaded horn speaker soon.
Then
one day Hasehiro's agent brought small loudspeakers for
PC
and he told Hasehiro "I give you this famed
loudspeakers, please
surpass the acoustic quality".
The
agent suggested develop iPod-enabled smaller backloaded
horn
speaker to Hasehiro early on.
This famed
loudspeaker mounted weedy 5cm speaker driver.
Hasehiro
listened unwillingly to the sound for repay his
kindness.
What an incredible sound!
Of course it's no
dynamism like backloaded horn system, but the
sound of
musical instruments and vocal have an
indescribable
atmosphere. Without a doubt, that's a wolf
[hi-fi sound] in sheep's
clothing [small in
size].
Backloaded prototype's sound is better if it is a
stomping rock
music. However, this famed loudspeaker's
sound is better if it is
a quiet classic and ballad.
The
backloaded prototype can't even equal the nuance of music
and mood of this famed loudspeaker.
Hasehiro thought this
famed loudspeaker has secrets from the box
of a
purpose-built structure, but above all else, the speaker
driver
seemed to provide excellent performance.
It
seemed to him that the speaker drivers are
performing music
from the larger diameter than its
diaphragm.
Hasehiro detached the speaker drivers
from this famed
loudspeakers, and he outfitted the
enclosures of the backloaded
prototype with the speaker
drivers, it not only energy, dynamism
but also delicate
goodly tone that it knock the bottom out of
existing
sound of 5cm drivers, certainly that was target
tone.
That's the most appropriate best speaker
driver!

However, Hasehiro
did not know the speaker driver and that origins.
He took
it after much ado and he ordered the speaker driver
from
the manufacturer.
But it was a different sound
in spite of the same model of the
speaker driver.
The
agent had heard that Mr.Hiroaki Otani tuned to the
speaker driver and so he called Mr.Otani to ask about the
tuning process.
Naturally, Mr.Otani refused absolutely
because of a trade secret.
That's true, but both
drivers are too different in spite of the same looks. Hasehiro
thought I can't reach that moving piece of sound
to
many people if quickly go quiet and
obedient.
Hasehiro bounced own passion off
Mr.Otani, I want to make the world's highest small audio
speaker.
Hasehiro could acquire the tuning know-how by
Mr.Otani.

Hasehiro tuned the speaker driver more than
once.
In November 2007, he could recreate that emotional
sound.
The smallest premium speaker reproduces the
atmosphere and the
echo of concert hall and also the space
of stage even it's about
30cm distance between both
speakers.
That's not forced to compromise speaker such as
patience of mini.
You can enjoy the own character
such as the magnificent orchestra, the shining string
music, the hot jazz and the enthusiasm of
rock.
In January 2008, Hasehiro Audio introduced
an entirely new type of
the speaker system -
UMU-131XS.
Hasehiro Audio gave a name "Hasehiro Premium" to the speaker
series of
sally forth into the world and Hasehiro Audio
decided
promptly that UMU-131XS is the first production
of
"Hasehiro
Premium"
