OF WCW-F200A unforgettable
episode |

An
owner of MM speaker brought 3 alnico magnet 20cm drivers,
and
he encouraged Hasehiro to preview the sounds of
them.
They are vintage speaker drivers and the back
imprints are SUBA,
SIEMENS-Klangfilm and
TELEFUNKEN.
Their diaphragms are cone paper and alnico
magnets are small.
Additionally, their flames are
weenie light sheet-metal construction.
Hasehiro compared
sounds after mounting on MM-191T pair by
pair.

SUBA
Piano is
powerful and its texture is high quality.
Sound isn't
clouded, it has high contrast and twinkles
overall.
High-tone range is no good, for example, high-tone
range of a violin
doesn't fully extend, it's like a
squeal.
But vocal range has a fullness and warmth, that's
the appeal of
the vintage speaker drivers.
It is a
narrow range but highly enjoyable to hear music more
than
modern speaker drivers.
It has a higher sound
pressure level than ALTEC 409-8 inch,
and a beautiful
alnico sound.
SIEMENS-Klangfilm
Piano is bitter
sound, it doesn't play piano with a resonant sound.
Sound
lacks the depth and it is flat.
But it still has alnico
magnet, strings is beautiful.
It is for jazz and pop
lovers, but not for classical music
lovers.
TELEFUNKEN
Sound is similar to
SUBA.
It has a large surface area of diaphragm due to deep
cone paper.
So it is a rich sound like a larger
speaker driver.
And it is very pleasing to the ear, so it
brings a sense of ease.
The bass is more than
enough.
High-tone range of a violin extends
beautifully.
It's the widest range among them,
and plays even orchestra easily. |

Compared
to ferrite sound, alnico sound is so good after
all.
It has pure and silken sound, so music soaks into the
body.
Hasehiro reacknowledged anew the appeal of alnico
magnet by this
opportunity.
Inspired by this
trial listening, Hasehiro listened to the sound of
FOSTEX
F200A after so long. |
Previously,
Hasehiro listened to the sound of FOSTEX F200A
after
mounting on MM-191T, but it lacked force
sound out and it was
uninflected sound. So, Hasehiro
unrecommended it for MM box. |

Hasehiro therefore mounted FOSTEX F200A on WCW
enclosures on
a temporary basis because
of a higher radiant efficiency.
The double-layered hybrid
horn speakers played backboned bass |
from the opening.
This was totally sill
soft sound, but it was inflected
sound and it had sound
contrast.
Compared
to ferrite sound, alnico sound is
so beautiful after
all.

Hasehiro completed WCW enclosures for
ALTEC
CD408-8A Mr.K ordered. (WCW-200A)
But Hasehiro has
drilled the holes for the wrong
big size, it therefore put
him out of the order
details. So, Hasehiro changed mounting

to FOSTEX F200A instead of ALTEC
CD408-8A with Mr.K's consent.
Hasehiro
dropped FOSTEX F200A on the baffle aperture of
resupine
painted WCW enclosure on a platform truck, and
temporarily
previewed the sound as it is.
It is
mild-appearing sound, but string instrument is very
beautiful
after all. It has a warm vocal and sufficient
bass.
Expression of sound is soothing like silk, and it has
a high quality
texture from the relationship of alnico flux
density.
ALTEC CD408-8A plays music crisply, but FOSTEX
F200A is
anything but that. However, FOSTEX F200A has more
ability to
play acoustic.
Although FOSTEX F200A
(WCW-F200A) has a shortage of aging.

Hasehiro dropped to try LOWTHER PM6A on
the baffle aperture of
resupine painted WCW enclosure on a platform truck,
and
temporarily previewed the sound as it is,
too.
Hasehiro thought LOWTHER PM6A has a bright
sound, so it will
become much brighter if mount on WCW
enclosure, and listener
will probably get tired from
listening. It actually was.
It plays a delicate and
beautiful sound, but midrange lacks in
thickness. So, it
will be a high centrobaric music.
But LOWTHER PM6A was a
good chemistry between MM-191T. |

Hasehiro has delivered first WCW-F200A
without trial listening.
He got a report from Mr.K some
time after. |

Shostakovich
Sound is so
clear.
WCW-F200A plays all instruments from treble to
bass.
I can see the position of each
instrument.
WCW-F200A creates a balance between round
strings and
sharp winds.
WCW-F200A propagates clear
string vibration such as violin
and cello toward
me.
With regard to winds, WCW-F200A plays hornist's
breathing and
tone color of particular instrument like oboe
beautifully.
Timpani of the finale of Shostakovich's Fifth
Symphony is
the genuine tone.
WCW-F200A makes the
realistic sensation, great!
RUBBER SOUL
The Beatles
I can see Paul's fingering of
electric bass like pat own stomach,
and its sound
is great!
WCW-F200A plays well bass drum to cymbal and
acoustic such as
maracas.
Acoustic guitar and sitar are
sharp sound.
Sharp rhythm guitar and its ad lib are
perfect.
I am so struck by John's singing voice like
squeeze.
Also, realistic sensation is wonderful!
The
Bill Evans Trio
WCW-F200A plays piano faithfully from
treble to bass.
Double bass is the genuine such as
husky sound and beat note.
WCW-F200A plays bass drum to
cymbal sharply and clearly.
WCW-F200A makes the realistic
sensation after all.
You have delivered WCW-F200A
without trial listening.
So please find time to come to my
house and listen to the

3 people from
Hasehiro Audio visited Mr.K's house and previewed
different
genres of music through WCW-F200A.
WCW-F200A was
placed on rubber insulators in Mr.K's study.
At
first they previewed Mr.K's favorite the
Beatles' song.
Mr.K has had a band, so knows a
lot about instrumental sound,
and he talked, "General
speaker can't play vibrato tone of electric
guitar so
clearly."
WCW-F200A plays guitar, drum and vocal with
vivid clarity even
low volume, and that a good
balance.

Mr.K talkd, "When I
am at my desk listening to a symphony, I make
myself feel
orchestra director. I always pay attention to music by
its
vividness. That's only fault about
WCW-F200A."
This combination of WCW
enclosure and FOSTEX F200A;
WCW-F200A is very
perfect.
Hasehiro is not surprised to discover that WCW
is so clear sound
because he has deep knowledge about
it.
But Hasehiro was surprised at the voluminous
bass.
WCW-F200A played deep bass like wrapping the
entire hall in a bass
tone from multiple contrabasses
even a low volume effortlessly
when we listened to
orchestra performance.
Minimum frequency response
of FOSTEX F200A is 30Hz.
There has almost flat 30Hz to
20kHz on the impedance frequency
characteristic graph (see
graph below) so it covers from treble to
bass smoothly even
a low volume.
Thus the listeners can listen to the music in
relief and comfort.
Also, there has almost no drop
around 20kHz.

FOSTEX
F200A

Alnico magnet is attractive after
all.
Treble is sensitive and supple like silk, especially
string instrument
shows its difference.
It has a
very beautiful and a moist tone just like alnico
magnet,
and furthermore FOSTEX F200A has combination
of silky treble and
deep bass. That's magical tone color.
And it uses mica fine ceramics
multi-layered cone for the
diaphragm, so the sound dosen't have
a paper
smell.
But FOSTEX F200A doesn't pack
instantaneous punch force like
ALTEC CD408-8A, so Hasehiro
recommends WCW-200A (CD408-8A)
to staccato sound lover such
as percussion.
Nevertheless, WCW is non-resonant and high
radiant efficiency
enclosure. Therefore, music needing
attack such as jazz and rock
was pretty good even WCW-F200A
(F200A) in spite of mildness.
Hasehiro took the
Wiener Philharmoniker's CD to Mr.K's house.
They
heard someone whistling outside when listened to
the third
movement of Dvorak's Ninth Symphony "From
the New World".
The whistle identity was a jumping
high pitch sound of woodwind
from the right
WCW-F200A.
After return to Hasehiro Audio, Hasehiro
listened to it through
another type of speakers once
again.
But the jumping high pitch sound was
unspectacular sound, and it
was buried in other
instruments.
Hasehiro reconfirmed that FOSTEX F200A has a
high resolution.
Mr.K is a
Beatlemania.
He went to the concert at the
Budokan in 1966.
